Sunbury Christian Academy
Philosophy of Education

Sunbury Christian Academy is founded upon the belief that all truth is from God and is revealed in the inspired and infallible Word of God.  The Bible states that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10).  Therefore, Christian education must have a reverence for God as its starting point, and producing students who desire to know and do God’s will as their goal (Col. 3:11).  They must view life from God’s perspective, not man’s perspective.  See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and vain deception according to the tradition of men rather than according to Christ. (Col. 2:8).  God’s inspired and inerrant Word is seen as the final authority and serves as our guide in the education we provide for our students.  Our vision is that we will “prepare students to be responsible, well-educated citizens, who reflect a Biblical world-view, as evidenced by a lifestyle that honors and glorifies the Lord”.

We believe that knowing Christ as personal Savior and Lord is imperative for a life to honor God.  Therefore we believe the spiritual development of our students is crucial for them to receive an education that honors God.  (Romans 1:8)  Since we do not require all students to come from Christian families, it is our goal that every student will come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and that along with those who already do, will grow in their love for God and others.  Only as they come to know Him and His purpose for their lives can they be truly educated and thus glorify the Lord as the Holy Spirit works in their hearts. (Colossians 2:3, John 16:13)

Since we hold to a Biblical worldview, Scriptural values and principles permeate every aspect of SCA.  The education that a student receives is based on God’s Word.  The Bible is central to all spiritual, intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth. (Proverbs 8:10-11).  Therefore, to provide a quality academic and spiritual program, Biblical integration, scriptural memorization, chapels, the application of biblical character qualities and principles, service opportunities, a solid academic curriculum, and Spirit-filled teachers are essential. As the teachers reinforce God’s truth, values, discipline, instruction and the application of those truths to a strong academic program, the result is both spiritual and academic excellence that will enable our students to positively impact our world for Christ, both now and in the future. As the students learn to base their lives on God’s Word, they will see His purpose for their lives and want to live in a way that honors Him. Our mission is “to equip students to honor and serve Christ through an education that integrates Biblical principles and values with a quality academic program”.

“ I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto the Lord which is your reasonable service.”  Romans 12:2
